Jamaican Music
Jamaican music began with Jazz. After the Spanish and soon to be British took over, slaves began to create music during their free days. The most influential person in regards to Jamaican music is Bob Marley. Beginning as Marley and the Wailers, Bob Marley is known for his laid back and smooth songs and lyrics. The "no problem" mentality of the Jamaican people can really be traced back to Bob Marley himself. Marley's music, as well as most Reggae music, was and is so popular because it covers political issues in which people can relate to, in addition to the smooth listening style. In short, we can thank Bob Marley and his ability to spread his style of music for the amazing sounds of Jamaican music today.
Bahamian Music
Perhaps the most popular types of Bahamian music are Rake n' Scrape, Calypso, and Junkanoo. No one single person or group is responsible for the rise in different music types in the Bahama's but Bahamian music also began with Jazz. Rake n' Scrape and Calypso are forms of music that groups have ventured of on their own to form, while Junkanoo is a Native dance and music style that is still practiced today.
